I am currently working and going to school for Metalsmithing This jobinvolves heavy labor working with many tools and is very timeconsuming I first decided that I wanted to do this back in 2008 I wasintroduced to Kat Mayer a Professor in WIUs art department Sheintrigued me with her many skills and techniques when working withmetal The reason why I was so amazed is because she was like me aWoman I had only heard about male artist almost my entire life Ever since Iwas interest in art I had only learned about Picasso RembrandtDaVinci and many more Not once do I remember talking about femaleartist in any of my art classes that I have ever been in since gradeschool I have always believed and seen male artist succeed more in artMen are promoted more in this occupation When I realized that woman cando the same I was determine to make a career out of working with metalIt was hard at first because many people believed that I could not workwith the tools or know even know how to use them correctly I haveproved them all wrong I sweat when using the torch I lift heavymaterials I use a lot of different power tools and I get injured a lotI dont cry like a little girl or complain that something is toodifficult I take it like any man doing to job and Im a Woman Sex segregation of occupations happens almost everywhere still to thisday Sex segregation in the work force exemplifies that there are somejobs that are more intensified for men and others that are moreintensified for woman For example Art has always been based towardsmen especially Metalsmithing and teaching or childcare for women Sexsegregation has been deteriorating over the years and is currently at50 This example that I have given serves as a good example of Sexsegregation in the work force Not only have I experienced it myself butI have been taught to look
