Technology has become an ever-present part of todays society Initiatives are working to make technology ubiquitous in schools as well Prior research suggests that technology enhanced lessons support student engagement motivation and achievement Research also has suggested that without providing extensive professional development and training teacher implementation of learner-centered technology-enhanced lessons in classrooms may be limited While there is extensive research on instructional practices general use of technology in classrooms and general professional development little research has been conducted that explores the influence of 11 device initiatives the professional development needed in these initiatives or the sustained changes that may occur in teachers classrooms while implementing such initiatives This action research study will focus on three schools that will participate in a 11 district initiative Observations interviews questionnaires and survey will be utilized to determine the effectiveness and sustainability of technology integration strategies provided in professional development for a 11 initiative implementation Introduction As we continue our path through the twenty-first century the role of technology in schools is growing exponentially With the impeding implementation of the common core state standards and its focus on the embedded use of media and research through key content areas schools are scrambling to find ways to bring technology into the hands of every student This is often manifested through a 11 device or laptop rollout Experts say interest in one-to-one computing is on the rise because of its potential to improve access to online curricula collaboration on school projects and communication between teachers and students Wilson 2009 However putting a mobile computing device in the hands of every student and teacher however isnt just a matter of buying the machines Implementation professional development and integration into the curriculum can be major challenges Unfortunately the basic role of 11 technology and the goals behind it are frequently lost The use of 11 device technology is intended not to replace teachers but to serve as a valuable tool in
