For the Same Reason People Ride Roller Coasters The number of teens who drink alcoholic beverages is not surprisingly high It is no wonder that the nation that has the only 21 and over drinking age is also the nation that has the most problems with alcohol Teens are dying by the thousands in alcohol related car accidents They are drinking too much and dying of over doses Is it really surprising though that once teens get alcohol they do not know the proper way to consume it The answer is no We are a nation that is full of hypocrisies and alcohol consumption is one of them Adults tell teens and pre-teens that alcohol is horrible and bad and that it should not be touched until one reaches that magical age of 21 However when that brass ring is set so high it becomes more and more appealing and teens become addicted to the thrill of risking their lives to grab it Although most teen drinkers enjoy the feeling of being intoxicated the feeling of rebellion and freedom that comes with drinking is just as strong of an incitement as the alcohol its self Adults believe that the alcohol is the cause for every teen drunk driving accident but more so it is the parents themselves By setting such high standards for children parents who do not condone drinking even though they drink themselves instate a great fear of punishment and rejection into their childs brain They teenager thinks to himself I want to go out drink and be a normal human being but I mustnt let my parents know about it This fear is the number one reason why kids take rides from friends who are drunk They are risking their lives out of fear of being a family outcast or labeled a black sheep In my opinion if people would only realize that teens become adults around the age of
