Inside the Field of Criminology Criminology is a major that forms the basis of all law related professions as well as for graduate school in terms of becoming a lawyer Criminology is defined as a social science dealing with the nature extent and causes of crime Criminology1986 pg 329 Criminology is the start of understanding how laws works I have personally been interested in law ever since I was younger When it came time to think about college I realized that majoring in criminology was a good foundation for the start of my future I feel that criminology is not just of interest to someone that wants to pursue law but actually deals with every ones day to day lives Law is something that is all around but often not thought about until a person is arrested or pulled over for a traffic violation That is what makes law so important the fact that it sets the guide lines for how our country is regulated and controlled and protects our very rights as citizens of the United States Criminology is actually a fairly easy major until about the junior year of college The first two years are the basic general education course requirements The best thing for me was that only two years of math are required no matter what the level is Other wise the requirements are the same as for all majors Once the start of the junior year takes place the required exit classes come into effect Criminal justice and law theories are just a couple of the required classes to get the bachelors degree These classes should be fairly simple for someone interested in the subject but if not interested could be challenging
