In An End to Audience Margaret Atwood states that television has become too important in our society She believes that television has become the storyteller to millions of children around the world as compared to many yeas ago when stories were told by human beings I strongly agree with her but I would like to take it a step further I think todays society is more interested in what happens on ER rather than what their family history is A person can be interested in a television show but it has taken over peoples lives Technological advances like e-mail the Internet and pagers have taken over many aspects of life that were once tradition and made them obsolete When I was young I used to spend my entire summer vacation in Vermont My dad moved there when I was about eight and for years that was where my summers were spent We did all kinds of outdoor activities We hiked went swimming mountain biked and even did a little rock climbing We had a lot of fun as a family and never watched television As a matter of fact the only channels we received were three six and ten and even they didnt come in clearly all the time To me television was never really a big deal I always preferred to be outside playing a sport or just enjoying the fresh air When I spent time with my family we got to know each other better and I heard all the stories of my father in high school and college and I would rather listen to those stories any time over watching MTV or ESPN I like watching those channels and I do regularly but it will never get to the point where television is my life Many of my friends from high school have never b een hiking or rock climbing and I truly believe they are missing out on something that can
