Writing As A Career Ive always enjoyed writing for fun in my free time What turned me onto writing was reading I was always reading Stephen King books and one day I simply said to myself Hey I bet I can do this So I did At first I started just writing about my day in my journal After a while I decided to try writing short fiction stories I had a lot of ideas that I had always wanted to write I liked the way my stories came out so I continued writing more often It wasnt until recently that I have seriously considered writing as a career I started to research about how to get my works published I was surprised to find that the process of getting a work published was a lot more involved than I had originally thought I ignorantly thought that getting my works published was nothing more than sending a story or two to a publishing company them liking it and setting up a meeting I would come to their building and sit on one side of a long table and several men in penguin suits would be sitting on the other I would be handed a contract with a fountain pen I would then sign a contract saying that I was entitled to a million dollars for every book I wrote Thats what I imagined The research I did told a totally different story and brought up assets of becoming a published writer I had never considered An aspect of writing that confuses most new authors is the question of having an agent It is very important to have an agent But it is even more important to have a good agent It is far better to have no agent than a bad agent A bad agent will sometimes try and cheat you out of much of the money that rightfully belongs to you
