During wartime soldiers are always in danger Whether it is from bullets spraying from riflemen or infectious diseases such as typhoid fever Soldiers are in constant danger during times of war which usually impacts their mental health In fact soldiers who have served in some type of war are susceptible to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD is triggered from traumatic events which can cause numerous symptoms in its victims Some of these symptoms can be isolation anger depression hallucination and etc Many people known to suffer from PTSD are soldiers who have experienced many inhumane actions or images that are forever burned in their mind A study even showed 1 in 3 soldiers who have fought in Vietnam have some of Post-Traumatic Disorder However one could never understand the gravity of PTSD until Daltons Trumbo novel Johnny Got His Gun which showed how war dehumanized the solider and had felt his mental health deteriorating The main character Joe Bonham was a prime example of what PTSD can do to a human being This man was constantly on an island since he was so isolated from the world Joe also created many flashbacks to his past of better times to avoid relieving or remembering the experiences he observed in war Moreover Joe has a sense of depression and hopelessness that seems to swallow him up into darkness and farther away from happiness After his incident isolation and depression has become Joe new best friends and the only thing that keeps him sane are his memories from the past In the art of war no one ever wins Even though some countries may get what they desire through fighting the soldiers battling do not benefit Millions of people die for the benefit of a few and the soldiers left are left with deep mental issues that seem to torture them every dayEven though the United Sates may have succeeded in their purpose in World War I they
