Diabetes Diabetes is a very well known disorder Many people all over the world are affected by diabetes There are three types of diabetes Immune-mediated or Type 1 diabetes Type 2 diabetes and Gestational diabetes Immune-mediated or type 1 diabetes is a disease that affects the way your body uses food It destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin This could lead to a total failure to produce insulin and without insulin your body cannot control blood levels of sugar and you would die An estimated 500000 to one million Americans have this type of diabetes Type 1 diabetes usually appears suddenly Some signs and symptoms are high levels of sugar in the blood high levels of sugar in the urine frequent urination extreme hunger extreme thirst extreme weight loss weakness and tiredness feeling edgy and having mood changes and feeling sick to your stomach and vomiting No one knows exactly what causes type 1 diabetes but some people inherit it while others may have an illness causing diabetes Type 1 diabetes can cause hypoglycemia or low blood sugar hyperglycemia or high blood sugar and ketoacidosis or diabetic coma Type 2 diabetes is disease that affects the way you body uses food It is the most common type of diabetes and affects about 15 million Americans Type 2 causes your body to no make enough insulin or your body still makes insulin but cannot properly use it Without enough insulin your body cannot move blood sugar into the cells and sugar builds up in the bloodstream causing problems No one knows the exact cause of type 2 diabetes but it does run in families and usually takes another factor such as obesity to bring on the disease Type 2 develops slowly and most people who get it have increases thirst and an increased need to urinate They also feel edgy tired and sick to their stomach have an increased appetite but they
