The definition of hero is one noted for courage greatness etc The classic novel The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald portrays a sarcastic fable of the pursuit of success and the collapse of the American dream The author shows many aspects of greatness and courage portrayed by most of his characters but what all makes one of these characters a hero In many movies films novels etc the hero is always the mysterious dark and handsome man that magically appears to save the damsel in distress from the fire breathing dragon or some evil villain But in The Great Gatsby none of these stereotypes are shown If one hero was to be chosen from the major male characters none would have the recommendations to become a true valiant hero Each character Jay Gatsby Nick Carraway Tom Buchanan Meyer Wolfsheim George Wilson and Henry C Gatz each obtain their own unique courage or greatness Jay Gatsby also known as the Great Gatsby in which this novel is named after may be a hero for as the reader may know that he is a new wealthy Easterner that has determination which a hero needs to possess His drive leads him from poverty to wealth
