Fencesis a drama written by August Wilson Wilson portrays the life of protagonist Troy Maxson who is an African American that lives in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania with his family in 1957 during the migration era During this century society treat African Americans severely because of their race not having an education and many more The reasons to African American being treated harshly affects his life because it was a challenge for him to maintain his family together by having a decent job as a garbage man at the sanitation of department and keeping up with his responsibilities such as being faithful to his wife Rose and controlling his son life Cory Throughout the drama he constantly makes careless mistakes that affect his relationship with his family however the mistake that has the most impact in his life and his loves one is when he betrays his wife by cheating with Alberta Troy Maxson experiences while growing up with his father himself and society shapes his identity by being an accountable and durable man that sacrifice his life for his family In his early age his father shows him no love by abusing him not being a role model and only care for himself Troy once said The only thing that my daddy cared about was getting them bales of cotton in to Mr Lubbin Wilson 51 His father was worrying to much about his needs and wants he did not care about his son and he was not being there for Troy During Troys life he went to prison 15 years for murder and robbery In his prison time he met his best friend Bono and also learns how to play baseball From prison Troy learns I done learned my mistake and learned to do whats right by it You still trying to get something for nothing Life dont owe you nothing You owe it to yourself he lectures his older son Lyons
