Archeologists believe that the Great Wall of China was built between the seventh and ninth century BC The construction began in the Zhou dynasty when the people at war built a defensive wall to ward off enemies from the north It started off as a regional project until the Qin dynasty joined the separate walls together The wall is stretched from east to west over 5000 kilometers long The Great Wall of China is the monument of the Chinese history The construction began in the Zhou dynasty It started of as only a regional project His goal was to control the six major states of Zhou so he built many different walls that went along the north side of China The walls were about 650 km to 1500 km long each The Northern Wei Northern Qi and the Northern Zhou built the walls During the Qin Han Sui and Tang dynasties the separate walls were connected all of the walls by hand The wall was built out of granite stone brick and earth These dynasties reconstructed the wall stretching it to be over 5000 kilometers long The wall served as a great defense for over 2000 years against intrusions from northern tribes Soldiers from all parts of China were brought to the northern part of China to help build some of the wall Each person had to spend a certain amount of time building the wall During war periods more of the wall was built on the borders to protect the states against each other The construction of the wall ended in the middle of the 17th century with the Ming dynasty The wall we see today is mostly from the Ming dynasty While in the Ming dynasty they built the wall out of brick granite work and enlarged and sophisticated designs In deliberate areas the watchtowers were restored and strengthened They made all these new and sophisticated designs because they were afraid of
