My life been filled with so many elders who have taught me valuable lessons that have stuck with me When I look at all the elders I can interview most of them were not around me for thanksgiving I choose to do a life review interview with my mother Willie Sargent I grew up with many misconceptions about my mother I thought she was my mother and she never had a hard day in her life My mother was not ready for her retirement since she adopted me and my siblings when she was 53 years old My mother retirement plans are to live in the house my father brought with his GI bill when they first got married She plans to retire in the next few years from Garland ISD as a library aide After talking about her plans for retirement I use reminiscence questions to see what life events stuck with her in to her old age of 73 years old Many of the questions made her sad at times others put a smile on her face that could light of a roomWillie Sargent was born June 19 1941 in Marlin Texas to Ms Eula Harris was the oldest of three children Living in a house with a single mother Willie had to responsibilities of caring for her sisters when their mother was away or busy around the house At the time the family had little money she was born in her grandmothers house She lived in a two bedroom house with her mother and two younger sisters she never had her own room had to share with her two sisters Growing up her grandmother Pearl Harris meant a lot to her she was her hero because she was always there for the family Her grandmother was the saver for the family in their times of needs When asking questions about her grandmother the memories started to flow out Her grandmother
