I have been working in the restaurant industry for the past seven years Through my experience I have seen good management and bad management decisions and the effects it has on the business as a whole Good managers must implement the four functions of management into their business if they are going to be successful These include planning organizing leading and controlling I also must incorporate the four functions of management into my position as a server more than I realized Lets take a look at an average day in my field and you will see what I mean I open the restaurant at 600 am but in order to do so I must plan to arrive at 530 am so I can get everything ready for the day Once I am at work I must estimate or plan ahead to determine how busy we are going to be so I can make enough coffee filters brew enough iced tea and stock enough supplies in front of the serving area for easy access so the shift runs smoothly If I underestimate this can pose a problem because once we got busy there is no time to go back and make more As gas is essential for a car to run planning is essential for a restaurant to be successful In the restaurant industry the managers must plan for the unexpected This meaning someone not showing up for work the icemaker not working the power going out There are all sorts of wrenches that can be thrown into your day That is why management must always plan ahead and be on their feet and ready to react to any situation that may arise on any given day Once we open the restaurant the organizing process is implemented There is a lot that needs to still be done and in order to do so we must organize Organizing is an important factor in the restaurant
