I am 16 and I go to Bryan High School I am on the football and wrestling team GO BEARS I like to skateboard and eat pizza I have one brother and I live with my dad Social networks make it easier for online predators to prey on children and teens For those who think social networks give you the ability to be a Social Butterfly are wrong Social networks give you the ability to be whoever you want to be and that is dangerous You can make a Facebook Myspace etc under any name age or picture you want There are no restrictions or credential checks to verify who you are when you get on these sites That is dangerous in many aspects for pedophiles and for the underage kids trying to get on these social sites On most Social networking sites there are age restrictions to make a profile For example Facebook is thirteen however there are no credential checks so the children under thirteen just make up a birthday to join This is dangerous because children are then exposed to things they are not ready to see and with a fake age it is a risk for advances from older people Some parents might say they dont want to invade their childs privacy however as a parent they need to be involved in what their children are doing online Its not necessarily invading their privacy it is monitoring the things people are saying and sending to their children Some parents dont even know what Facebook or Myspace are Now days children spend more time on the internet than anywhere else It is important that parents know what their children are doing online and set rules for their children to follow Parents should frequently check the computer history they should check their childs friend list and their postings and the computer should also be placed in a common area such as the living
