Complete government control No free thoughts Everyone told to think and act the same way This kind of society is portrayed in Ayn Rands novel Anthem featuring a young man given the name Equality 7-2521 Equality is a person that has been given very different qualities and characteristics For example he is much taller and much smarter than any of his fellow men Being any different than the other citizens is frowned upon and is considered a sin Equality began to question the governments way of ruling society and under certain circumstances he finds himself alone to think about his individualism and why the things that make him special is considered wrong Equality then comes to realize that the government believes being different would promote thoughts of an uprising and overthrowing the officials so the council pronounced all forms of individuality as a sinThe government officials in Anthem believe that individualism would promote people having different opinions for government rule whereas the government believes that it should always be the one in control The government is divided into levels of Councils with the World Council being the highest possible level Individuals do not choose what career pathways that they want themselves to do the Council of Vocations makes the decision Random individuals get chosen to go study for many years so they may become candidates and be elected to the City Council and the State Council and the World Council Rand 25 They get taught what the government wants them to know how to run the government what is a sin and whats not a sin etc These candidates cannot be elected based on personal opinions if they dont have any so there is only option during the election the governments option Everyone having the same low intelligence level makes them unable to decipher the wrongdoings of the government making the people incapable of a revolution Rand states in her novel that
