American As the American man walked down the street of Beijing he noticed many American restaurants and stores such as McDonalds and JC Pennys He knew that China was becoming very modern but the rate of Americanization startled him Many of his Chinese friends were proud that their country was becoming more American but he resented that There was more to being American then just originating from the United States To be American is a privilege that comes with a sense of freedom and pride Only a true American would understand that The above paragraph describes the feelings of many patriotic Americans Lately it seems that the definition of the word American has become very controversial To some it merely means to be made in the US Geographically speaking American should refer to anything made in either North or South America but to many the definition is much more abstract Even the geographic definition of America is being disputed Traditionally America referred to one or both of either North or South America Today many people refer to the America as simply being the United States of America When one is asked where he or she is from and the reply is America then the assumption is that the individual is from the United States But the definition of American is much more than mere geography Day after day hardworking citizens of the United States go to work to earn their wages and to provide for their families So what makes that so different from the citizens of other countries Americans understand what it took to get to where they are now We Americans as a whole are entrepreneurs and will do whatever it takes to make money to provide for ourselves and our loved ones This may sound like greed but it is the spirit that drives the American economy The rights that the citizens of America have earned are the rights
