I urge you to take advantage of the solid start this draft represents by extending the discussion into analysis: Why has this disappeared from the narrative? Is it merely a matter of proportion and numbers? Is it because it happened "before" the war (i.e., WWII in Europe)? A side-effect of postwar rehabilitation and U.S. occupation of Japan? Simple racism or Western chauvinism in the field of history? Japanese nationalism? You set up a good opportunity to investigate this in your current structure -- start out a new paragraph with "Now, the Japanese government denies that such massacres were actually committed in Nanjing" and keep going after that description of official denial, looking at why this narrative exists and -- most importantly for a sophisticated analysis -- why it has been effective.
