Beep beep beep goes a patients heart monitor while the patientthemselves lies in a coma The family is awaiting the doctors wisewords in the hall just outside the room As the doctor walks out to thehall he is thinking to himself How do I tell the family that thereis nothing left to do The family sees the doctor and begins to expectsome good news only to become heartbroken when the words are saidThere is nothing left for us to do but the family suggests Maybewe can give the patient a lethal amount of prescriptions and they willpass that way While the hospital is located in Oregon the doctor maytell the family that he can do that Is that what you want Is thatwhat the patient would want done to them the doctor asks the familyThe family takes time to talk over the decision and then they will givethe doctor their answer Yes The family has answered It is nowtime for the doctors and nurses of the hospital to begin rounding upthose lethal mixtures of prescription drugs that will end fatally forthe patient Assisted suicide has many different views to look at itlawfully ethically religiously and medically There are two types ofassisted suicide passive and activeThe definition for active assisted suicide is causing or doingsomething to end the patients life Passive assisted suicide is notgiving the proper treatment to the patient allowing them to die or notpreserving a patients life Both are ways considered committingassisted suicide whether a doctor means to help one in suicide orwhether they secretly do it In order for a doctor to help assist apatient in ending their life the patient must ask for the finaltreatment by asking verbally to their attending doctor at least twoweeks apart and also providing a written request The primary caregiverof the patient must sign the request in the presence of two witnessesfor the request to be given to the doctor Fass and Fass Requests
