The Affects of Social Backgrounds on Society The heroic epic has been a favorite plot for writers since Babylonian times The stories all consist of similar aspects There is a hero who is the main character and the protagonist in the story The plot focuses on the hero and hisher struggle to overcome a greater force which most likely will be a form of government a government official or divine entities The hero will either overcome his opponents or die due to a tragic flaw that heshe possesses In the end there is a moral to the story which is intended to educate the reader or audience Frankenstein 1984 and Hamlet all share these similarities but are also independently distinctive Epics are very common because people enjoy reading about men and women who are human but seem to possess a nature which propels them against greater odds for better or for worse In 1984 and Hamlet we are presented with two main characters who are being oppressed by their own governments Whereas in Frankenstein Victor feels that he has been oppressed by God and in order to overcome God he needs to accomplish the miracle which sets him apart from god the creation of life from death and in doing so creates a creature that takes the form of God and punishes Victor for his insolence Although God and government are not identical they both are similar in the respect that they both possess absolute power In Hamlet Hamlet is distraught by the wickedness of his uncle and his monarchy In 1984 Winston knows that the Oceania government is corrupt and that he is doomed from the beginning And in Frankenstein Victor is unaware that his ambitions to rival God could have unforeseen consequences The totalitarian government in 1984 seeks to control its subjects in almost every manner A persons last place of hope is in themselves and who they are and what
