This paper will show why Echo and Narcissus and The Flight of Icarus are both classic myths because they fit all the criteria for being a myth However each does not have the same story elements that make it a myth For example they both have a lesson or a theme in them which are characteristic is for mythsEcho and Narcissus and The flight of Icarus both have a theme or moral in them The theme in Echo and Narcissus is do not bother loving someone if they are in love with themselves This is showed in the line Many Nymphs looked upon him and loved him But Narcissus laughed at them scornfully for he only loved himself290 Showing that you should not love him because he only loves himself The moral In The Flight of Icarus is listen to older wisdom which is shown in the line And if you fly too high the heat will melt the wax that holds them together678 Later in the book Icarus does not listen to his dads advice and the wax on his wings melted and he falls to his deathIn Echo and Narcissus and The flight of Icarus both stories have to do with gods and goddesses In Echo and Narcissus the line She was one of the most talkative too and once she talked too much and angered Hera wife of Zeus king of the gods290 This shows that there is gods and goddesses in this story because Zeus and Hera are gods goddesses The story The Flight of Icarus differs from Echo and Narcissus rather than is the same the quote He arrived safely in Sicily where he build a temple to Apollo290 proves this because this god is briefly mentioned in the passage only in this sentence at the end of the passageIn Echo and Narcissus and The flight of Icarus both stories have supernatural occurrences in them In Echo and Narcissus the
