Coaches In athletics most people think that the team or the player with the most talent always wins the game This is not always true There are a lot of factors that affect who will win a game such as the weather the location of the game injuries or many other small elements that could change the outcome of the game In most cases the more talented team does win but if a team has a coach that is good at motivating players an inspired team can overcome a team that has more talented or more skillful players Many people have heard the story of the famed Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne who motivated his team to go out and win one for the gipper The story was immortalized in a movie which no doubt would have been a movie of the week in todays society starring Ronald Reagan as George Gip the Gipper George is suffering from a terminal disease and coach Rockne motivates his team by telling them to win this game for their fallen comrade and Notre Dame goes on to be victorious From The Bad News Bears to The Mighty Ducks the theme is not uncommon in sports movies because the theme is so common in real life Regardless of which sport you enjoy watching there is an example of an inspired team overcoming a team with more ability For instance in 1983 the North Carolina State mens basketball team faced powerful Georgetown in the college basketball championship game Georgetown whose star player Patrick Ewing is still an all-star in the National Basketball Association today cruised through the playoffs crushing each of their opponents by a large margin North Carolina State who was not even supposed to make the playoffs quietly slipped into the final Georgetown was heavily favored by the oddsmakers but they had not taken into account the motivational skills of North Carolina State coach Jim Valvano
