There is a sickness of humankind and it is hate Hate is ugly it is destructive a feeling of prejudice It wont make you happy it can only make you angry and hurt you Andrew Sullivan tells us that there is a distinction between reasonable hate and unreasonable hate Reasonable hate stems from knowledge and unreasonable hate stems from ignorance Some examples for reasonable hate are child abuse racial injustice and anti-Semitism Some worlds used to describe the varieties of hateXare sexism racism anti-Semitism homophobia However they only tell us the identities of the victims they dont reveal how the victims feel Hate cannot be easily measured its vague and unconscious For example some people dont mind making friends who are homosexual however they will not go so far as to visit a gay bar with these friends Possibly in their mind they still have some mild hate for gay persons but it cannot be accurately measured Some people dont like overweight people because they just think they are disgusting or look bad So they stay away from overweight people because of some degree of unreasonable hate There is an unreasonable hate that fears power from some people because it makes poor people feel more powerless and envious Poor people who may have hard lives hate rich and powerful people Some men hate women who may get a better job than they Some patriots become xenophobic because foreigners move to their neighborhood Transition love can also turn to hate which can lead to a feeling for revenge Some crimes are driven by hatred for anothers race or from a difference in religion gender disability or sexual orientation Once you have deeper hate it can often lead to violent crimes Racism sexism anti-homosexuals are often involved in hate crimes For Sullivan the distinction arises from the identity of the victim A rape victim may feel reasonable hate for her attacker
