In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee one of the most prominent ideas was the incorporation of childhood The story gives readers a new perspective on many aspects of youth including innocence which helps to create a strong contrast between moral behavior and corruption of goodness Due to young childrens lack of distortion the book offers a pure insight into the minds of humans For that reason children are stronger than adults because of their ability to see and speak the truthTo begin with Scout shows that children interpret the world through a special childlike perspective For instance children sometimes can lack in what adults consider common curtsey Youre shamin him Miss Caroline Walter hasnt got a quarter at home to bring you and you cant use any stovewood Lee 21 In this case Scout is simply explaining how thing are for the Cunninghams she doesnt realize that she is embarrassing Miss Caroline nor does she realize that talking about wealth is a topic typically avoided After Scout speaks out she is scolded and then punished leaving her to wonder what she did Furthermore scout continues speaking the truth when she addresses Walters table manners But hes gone and drowned his dinner in syrup I protested Hes poured it all over It was then that Calpurnia requested my presence in the kitchen Lee 23 Innocence is shown here by the simplistic knowledge that Scout has yet to realize In many cases children say what everyone else is thinking but believes they should keep to themselves Finally the snide remarks made between the young kids added a sense of how black and white life can be for children Go on it aint far inside the gate Why you even touched the house once remember Jem looked at me furiously Lee 38 Generally Scout and Jem rarely bickered but when the time came often Scouts call it like you see it attitude
