One is told that being self reliant is the most important thing that one will learn in life Reading the excerpts from the essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson titled Self Reliance only made that comment more true The excerpts itself was very well written and very thought provoking Being in high school one is not always forced to rely on self for there are parents teachers and friends who are there to help One can be easily persuaded to use those resources to the fullest extent Being self reliant is being about to get things finished on someone else terms and times but completing and proving your competence To believe your own thoughts to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all- that is genius At eighteen who is to say what one knows of our own personal truths yet Which leaves one thinking can reading these excerpts or any reading material make ones search for that personal truth that much more important I am left to say yes because after reading these excerpts it makes me feel like I am not the average teenager skating through Sedona Red Rock High School taking classes that dont challenge me and ditching school to avoid a test Reading this makes me feel like I am taking that initiative and trying to do my best at getting through and learning as much as possible There is a time in every mans education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance Trust thyself that is half the part of being self reliant right Being able to trust yourself that youll get whatever you have to done without relying on others Im not saying that asking for help is bad it shows that your strong enough and brave enough to ask The point being made is that one must rely on self as much as possible without overworking yourself Its all
