During the Holocaust the Jewish population faced violent conditions The Nazis dehumanized the Jews in the concentration camps They viewed the Jews as nuisances that were not worthy of being treated like human beings This inhumane historical event lasted for almost twelve yearsJews were dehumanized in several ways The Germans loaded them into cattle cars to transport them to different concentration camps This was very similar to the process of shipping cattle to the slaughterhouse The conditions inside the cattle cars were definitely not suitable for humans Each cattle car was cramped and uncomfortable due to the high amount of people in each car In Wiesels novel Night he says Lying down was out of the question and we were only able to sit by deciding to take turns He also describes Twenty bodies were thrown out of the wagon Then the train resumed its journey leaving behind it a few hundred naked dead deprived of burial in the deep snow of a field in Poland In the eyes of the Germans Jewish people were no more than objectsAnother way that the Jews were dehumanized was that they no longer had names They were given numbers that would be used for roll call instead Wiesel recalls The three veterans with needles in their hands engraved a number on our left arms I became A-7713 After that I had no other name
