Prom season is almost here and for teenage girls this means the stress of buying dresses making hair appointments and decided who to go with Although that is exciting for many families painful memories of past prom seasons make each passing one seem like nothing more than a reoccurring nightmare due to the fatalities of alcohol and drugs To prevent this from happening it is my duty to tell you students why drinking on prom night is a major no no and why students should sign the prom pledge Nationally more than 100000 teens are arrested each year for drinking and driving on prom nights More than 20000 teens are injured each year due to prom night drinking and driving More than 1000 teens are killed each year due to prom night drinking and Driving Teens involved in prom night drunk driving arrests face court costs and defense fees which can exceed 1500 Additionally conviction for drunk driving offenses can lead to jail time fines community service probation higher auto insurance rates and creates a stigma on a teens record which can have adverse affect on the teens admission to college or on the teens ability to get a job Prom Night drinking leads teens to act irresponsibly Specifically many communities report that male teens who drink to excess on prom nights engage in violent behavior including but not agencies report that female teens who drink to excess on prom nights often engage in high risk sexual behavior which they would avoid if sober There are many ways to have fun without drugs and alcohol after prom For example teenagers could buy a bunch of one-use cameras pass them around to their friends and set a goal to use every last picture before the night is through They can visit an arcade with a group and challenge each other to a game or two go to a late-night coffeehouse and relive the evening for
