A scar of light hung in the blue-black sky The rain gushed down like awaterfall and trickled down my helmet skydiving onto the moist insideof the boat The atmosphere on the boat could be sliced with a knifethe air was slathered with the dank odour of chlorine As we venturedfurther into the sea approaching the battle zone My heart rateincreased thumping like the wings of a caged bird a sudden bloom ofcold-heat burst into my body bleeding out onto the primary layer of myskin causing my skin to become wet and cold simultaneously I realisedthat the pace of my breaths were starting to quicken and the spacebetween these breaths shortened the hairs on my back stood up in onequick motion My hands quaked involuntary as fear began to throw downits anchor into my core I knelt over to fetch my capsule whichcontained about a drop of cider enough to calm the nerves hopefully myhands still vibrating twisted in a circular motion hastily as Iferociously tear off the lid off the capsule swiftly but steadilylifting up the capsule to my dry crackled lips careful not to drop anyI consumed all of the capsules contents which in reality was only adroplet as I predicted but it felt like a waterfall in my mouthhaving not drank anything for the past couple of days has that effect ona person I closed the lid in the same fashion as I had opened it but this time myhands did not shake as violently as before only a slight tremble otherthan that all my emotions were the same if not they had worsened I hidmy emotions well trying not to let the soldiers see my pain I had toto be their example but not only was it I who was feeling frightenedand dreading the next chapter of my life or even the last for some menon that boat All the younger soldiers that I was held accountable forlooked worse than I felt
