Thutmose III Thutmose III was the pharoah of Egypt from 1504 bc to 1450 bc he was the son of Thutmose II and son in law of Queen Hatshepsut Queen Hatshepsut was overshadowing Thurmose III until her death on 1483 bc when her monuments were taken down by Thutmose III During that persiod of time Thutmose III had invaded Syria with his armies destroying them on the Plain of Jezreel in1479 bc Thutmose III later declared war against the state of Mitanni which was in the control of northern Mesopotamia defeating them and conquering several Mitannian cities extending Egypts borders over northern Palestine and Phonecia During Thutmose III rule he lead seventeen successful military campaigns and zero unsuccessful six of them in Syria and Palestine and eleven in Mitanni extending Egypts borders which was one of his greatest accomplishments earning him the nickname The Napoleon of Ancient Egypt Thutmose III was a military genius of his time because he understood the value of logistics and lines supply the necessity of rapid movement and sudden surprise attack and he was also the first leader in history to use sea-power to support his campaigns Thutmose III was not only talented in war he was also a horseman archer athlete and a patron of the arts The records of the time in which he was ruling show him to be a sincere and fair-minded man During his rule he restored Egypts power in Syria and Palestine setting up numerous obelisk towers in Karnak making him a hero to the Egyptions The obelisks still stand today three of them have been relocated in the Embankment of London Istanbul Turkey the other in Lateran Rome Making some of his greatest accomplishments presents in some of the most powerful nations in the last 2000 years ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bibliography Source Information 1 Encarta Encyclopedia 98 edition 2
