In this day and age its difficult for people with disabilities toplay sports let alone professionally Did you know that there were twodeaf players who played in the NFL National Football League There nameswere Bonnie Sloan and Kenny Walker In This paper I am going to talk aboutKenny Walker since he has inspired me because of the way he inspiredthousands of deaf people during the duration of his playing days Kennygave the message any one can Kenny Walker was named mostinspirational defensive player of the year in 1991 when he had three sackstwo fumble recoveries and 17 tackles Growing up at the age of two young Kenny Walker struggled withmeningitis and it left him deaf Kenny was the youngest of six childrenand the son of a cafeteria worker mother and an oil worker father Withoutmom or dad around Kennys brothers Darren and Guss would beat Kenny whenever Kenny felt self-pity or wanted sympathy When Kenny grew up his parents got a divorce and he went with his momto Denver Colorado and attended a deaf program at the University ofDenver high school He made the football team and started as defensiveend in tenth grade and played all through high school Eventually Kenny worked hard enough and got a full scholarship fromthe University of Nebraska and played four full seasons at startingdefensive end Kenny was an all-American along with five other players After four hard working seasons Kenny walker was drafted in the 1991 NFL draft in the 18 round 8th over all pick by the Denver Broncos In his rookie year he got 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries and 17 tackles and named most inspirational football player of the year award it was hard at first but eventually I could read the players
