Alone No Longer As I look at my life much change has been bestowed upon me Moving from city to city school to school I always had a parent a friend a companion Companionship is an important factor in the mental well being of a person This has been proven throughout time Whether it is a mate a wife or a friend it seems as though we all have someone Even in the beginning of time when man was first created a second a woman was later produced as a partner Two comparative pieces of literature have been passed down to tell the story of birth and creation These two stories not only portray the beginning of life as we know it but the beginning of something else the beginning of companionship The two tales told are those from Gilgamesh and the first story of the Bible Genesis As they are read the reader is given a new understanding of life and love The stories provide literature that shows the meaning of companionship and also how it prevails In both stories a higher being created the companions for a man named Adam from the Bible and for Gilgamesh The companionships although much alike had many different characteristics One of the characteristics that distinguish the difference between the companionships of both Enkidu and Gilgamesh verses Adam and Eve is the reason each was created In the story of Gilgamesh he was known as the strongest of all the perfect the terror Gilgamesh 4 He was also part man and part god which gave him much power over his city Uruk Gilgamesh being as powerful as he was did whatever he pleased this included sleeping with bride-to-bes on their wedding nights Scared of their protector the old men cried out to the Gods and begged for them to create another With that the Gods heard their wish and created Gilgameshs double to allow one stormy heart
