Growing up in a different country not knowing much about America or American policy I thought that the United States was a Christian nation There is some truth to that however it is not completely true It is true in a sense that almost every American president was a Christian and the United States is predominately Christian The fact that the United States was uniquely established on the nonestablishment clause which dictated that the United States make no law in favor of any religious belief nor stop one is what makes the United States appealing and unique in the world and in my opinion it is what gives it the power that it has in the world today The idea that the United States was based on such standards led many to choose the America as a refuge point - some came seeking freedom from a specific religious oppression from where they lived and others came for freedom to practice what they wished if they wanted to practice anything at all The myth of the Christian nation is problematic for many different reasons First of all it is a myth since it is not factually correct Second it is problematic for the sake of the Christian religion itself If America was a Christian nation and is reflective of true Christian beliefs in what is practiced in the religion than there is a problem with the Christian faith however that is not true I have been blessed with going to Pepperdine University and meeting wonderful devout Christian peers taking classes about the New Testament and learning closely about Christian morals ethics and beliefs It doesnt take a genius to conclude that the United States is not a Christian nation and does not reflect one It is clear that any country in todays world is backed by a political agenda even if it claimed to be reflective of a certain religion What is most problematic about the
