I believe strongly that all immigrants that want to gain citizenship in the United States of America should be required to have Basic English skills before being granted citizenship Our country is changing more for the immigrants than for ourselves You see bi-lingual posters and sign all over these days The pro-dominant language in the United States is English so why should we be requiring schools and government offices to support multi-lingual documents If foreign immigrants know basic English skills then they will be able to communicate with us and make our lives easier Schools all over the United States must provide an English and Spanish version of all textbooks Even in central suburbia Colorado Middle Schools where there are few or none Spanish-speaking students have textbooks that are completely in English but have a glossary in Spanish What do you think a glossary in Spanish is going to do when the entire book is in English What this is doing is making lives easier for people who want to live in our great country If we let them use only there native tongue then we are lowering our standards to include them Instead they should strive to meet our standards Some other schools are forced to have English translators for Spanish students This is an unnecessary measure that we are taking to make immigrants lives easier Those kids should be in English classes so they can learn English and be like everyone else in the United States Do we really need to hire more teachers to translate for Spanish speaking kids who are goin g to public schools I do not think so Another item that really upsets me is the government buildings and phone lines that have two language options At a government banks ATM machine you must choose between English and Spanish text My question to all of you is if you can understand the American Currency System
