Free Will the philosophical term of art for a certain dimension of coherent means to choose different courses of actions from various alternatives compared to determinism is one of the most thought provoking philosophical question that has been debated over for centuries For instance in the epic Macbeth Macbeth believes that he can alter his fate based off the belief that he has free will however he meets his untimely demise when he makes an attempt to control his life This theme can be seen in many epics and tales The question that arises is if there could have been a different outcome In the novel The Other Wes Moore One Name Two Fates people would perceive the outcome of the other Wes Moore to be either that of determinism or free will Free will is the governing principle in this novel because the other Wes Moores life could have been different make the choices of picking an unsuitable role model adapting to his milieu and participating in the distribution of drugsThe other Wes Moores life could have possibly been different if he chose a suitable role model In the text in reference to Wess half-brother Tony he states Tony was a certified gangster Tony had started dealing drugs in those shadowy hallways Murphy Homes before he was ten By fourteen Tony had built a fierce reputation in the neighborhoodMoore 27 Since Wess brother Tony is an icon in Wess eyes he will ultimately begin to try to emulate Tonys persona which will lead Wes to make horrible decisions In society children look for role models ranging from siblings parents and even cartoon superheroes so that they can have something to aspire to emulate Even with this fact Wes had plenty of other role models to choose from However since Tony was the closest thing the other Wes Moore had to a father figure Wes made the choice to shadow Tonys persona which lead him
