The purpose of this research is to describe how the Women Infants and Children WIC program operates to provide an overview of the policy issue that the WIC encounter and to explain the impact and effectiveness of the program It first provides a detailed description of the WIC program eligibility and benefits and the program finance and their level of administration In addition the paper describes problems the WIC program encountered in the past and the history of efforts that addresses the problem along with statistics and future research The final section of the paper evaluates the major findings from evaluation studies of WIC suggestions and changes made by the WIC and how the WIC is relevant to the social work values mission and ethicsStructural ComponentsThe WIC program formerly known as Special Supplemental Nutrition Program is a program that supports low-income women infants and children who are lacking proper nutrition The Healthy Meals for Healthy Americans Act of 1994 changed WICs name to be sure it is recognized as a nutrition program WIC are eligible to receive nutritious foods nutrition education and medical appointments such as social service and health care The WIC program is for those who cannot afford to give their infant the right nutritional foods and health care during pregnancy infancy and early childhood The WIC program helps meet the needs of low-income women infants and children to make sure that each applicant receives supplemental food and nutrition WICThe Special Supplemental 2012WIC participants receive a paper check or a voucher each month with either form of benefit WIC participants are eligible to purchase specific foods to better their diets with specific nutrients Also in some states WIC participants receive an electronic benefit card instead of a paper check or voucher Starting October 1 2020 all statewide WIC agencies will be required to use the electronic benefit transfer EBT due to the growth of technology
