Last year a religious faction of Afghanistan called the Taliban attacked the world trade center This faction believed they were doing gods work Almost 800 years before this happened the pope created an army and sent them to attack the Middle East and retake the holy cities of the Christianity These attacked were called the crusades Even though these two separate events happened hundreds of years apart they still parallel each other significantly Many similarities are shared by these two events During the crusades the Christians believed that they were not sinning because they were killing infidels and it was only a sin to kill other Christians This idea was shared by the Taliban people who suicide bombed the world trade center Another similarity was that both attacked were initiated by a strong figurehead who felt he was doing right Another thing was that the fighters were promised that their sins would be washed away and that they were pleasing god Even though these events share similarities there are also many differences The Taliban attacked the United States because they felt that we were all sinners and infidels The crusaders attacked to retake the holy land they felt was rightfully theirs The crusaders also fought man to man in close combat The Taliban used terrorism and suicide attacks There are also many lesser differences such as the number of people who attacked and the openness of the crusaders attack in comparison to the hidden nature of the Taliban It is scary how these two events relate We are so quick to judge the Taliban as horrible criminals but we too did something much like this a long time ago I am in no way defending the Talibans actions but we have to look at ourselves before we judge others
