Behavior is defined as a way of conducting oneself Behavior is the way human beings and other organisms act Our of the perception world and our knowledge of it is our behavior Skinner 140 Most human behavior comes from a combination of different things It can be determined by heredity and it can be determined by environment Our genes determine heredity Genes have chemical substances that give offspring a tendency toward certain physical and behavior qualities It also depends on the way an individual is brought up Environment is the different conditions and forces that surround and influence an organism An individuals environment can cause certain behavior For instance if a person is in an unfamiliar place they may behave in a nervous or strange manner Our environment our world of stimuli is thus not only one of external objects sights sounds and smells it is done of internal objects as well-hunger contractions bladder distensions palpitating heart rapid breathing muscular changes and the like Watson 7475 Learning is the process in which behavior changes because of experience or practice It consists of strengthening certain responses and weakening others There are four fundamentals of learning They are drive cue response and reinforcement Drive is referred to a motivation Cue impels or urges a person to go on Response is the acts or thoughts that are brought up by a drive that urges a person and a cue is directive A response is learned but before that it must be made Reinforcement is like a reward Reinforcements strengthen a response Behavior can either be classified as voluntary or involuntary We can not distinguish between voluntary and involuntary behavior by raising the issue of who is in control It does not matter whether behavior is due to a willing individual or a psychic usurper if we dismiss all inner agents of whatever sort Nor can we make the distinction on the basis of control or lack
