The Power of Prayer On one occasion during his personal ministry Jesus had slipped away from the crowd and gone out to a solitary place to pray He did that quite often in order to be alone with God Sometimes he would climb up the side of a mountain and pray Sometimes he would arise early and go out into the desert and pray On other occasions he went into a garden such as Gethsemane and prayed But on the occasion we will consider Jesus had turned aside to pray and his disciples came upon him while he was in prayer They did not disturb him but waited until he had finished and came unto Jesus saying Lord teach us to pray Look at Luke 111 And it came to pass that as he was praying in a certain place when he ceased one of his disciples said unto him Lord teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples These disciples were very impressed with the prayer of Jesus They wanted to pray like he prayed They had seen people pray before but it had never affected them They had seen the Pharisees stand on the street corners and pray long prayers to be heard of men But this prayer was different It was real it was genuine it came from the heart When Jesus finished praying the disciples came to Jesus saying Lord teach us to pray How often do you pray Do you have a regular time for prayer Its sad to say but prayer for most people is an emergency device - something they only use in time of trouble Family prayer is so rare that many children have never heard their parents pray Prayer does make a difference It is the mightiest weapon we can find Prayer moves the hand that rules the universe The inspired writer James says The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous
