The upcoming Ontario provincial election happening on June 3 1999 has many issues that are the prime topics The Progressive Conservatives are the current government Many feel that they have stuck the province of Ontario into a state of turmoil by education cut backs health care cut backs another drastic changes to the province Yet surprisingly they are still leading the race in the poles and are favoured to win once again Within this paper you will be informed on each parties position on the health care system of the Provence taxation as well as the environment Health care is the main issue within the election and the Liberals and NDP are using it to their advantage The PC government has made drastic cut backs within the past four years to the Ontario health care system The OSSTF claims that the Harris government cut two billion dollars out of the health care system laid off 10000 nurses shut down 35 hospitals and closed 7000 beds The Liberals used this to there advantage in the provincial debate when Dalton McGuinty Leader of the Liberal party spoke of a man that died on a stretcher after spending all night in a hospital hallway The Liberals within their campaign are promising that patients in life-threatening situations will get the help they need immediately as ambulances will always be informed of where to take patients so they are not redirected as they arrive at a hospital They guarantee that you will be assessed in an emergency waiting room just 15 minutes after you arrive No one will be forced to spend the night on a stretcher as all will get a room as everyone will get top of the line care Cancer patients will no longer wait four weeks for radiation treatment Women will be able to stay 48 hours after giving birth and not be released less then 24 hours after labour which can lead to complications
