Depression is a very real problem for women in the United States Women are about twice as likely to get depressed as men Most people do not realize the very real effects that come from depression and the treatments for it Women who are depressed often seek professional help from a psychiatrist who will prescribe drugs such as antidepressant muscle relaxers and sleeping pills Professional help is always a good idea when people feel that they have nowhere else to turn to However a lot of the time the drugs use is not carefully monitored and people begin to abuse the drugs that they are prescribed and everyone thinks it is normal Women who have children and become addicted to these drugs are not always thinking of how it will affect their children However the children are the most affected ones when their mom has this problem AT first these drugs can seem like a blessing and in some cases they are because they make the person who is depressed so much easier to deal with My best friend for the majority of my life has had first hand experience with this problem Her mom had a very real depression problem when we were young and she began regular visits to a psychiatrist She was a prescribed antidepressant sleeping medication and muscle relaxer along with some anxiety medicine Everyone thought this was a blessing at the time because she was so much easier to be around She was happy and more easy going and rarely ever had an anxiety attack After a while we noticed that every time we saw her she looked high and we later found out that she had been taking higher milligrams of the medication she was taking and sometimes doubling or even tripling the dosage she was prescribed When a child finds out that their mom has a drug problem they often dont understand what is going on
