When a student finally graduates college there are excited to finally apply what they have learned in college in their chosen field However nowadays that vast majority find themselves facing a debt larger than students have ever faced before There are many factors that have led to tuition being increased over the years Some are uncontrollable such as inflation whereas others are controllable such as government funding being limitedIn 1973 if a student wanted to attend a private university he or she would expect to pay about 10783 opposed to a public school at 2730Tuition and Fee And in 2013-14 the cost of a four year private school was 30094 and 8893Tuition and Fee Granted the cost of tuition will inevitably raise due to inflation tuition has raised 14 for private institutions and 27 for public in the past five years Tuition and Fee This is problematic because it forces students to take out students if the cannot afford the full price and then soon after graduation they must repay that money weather they have found employment or not or risk falling into default This causes many students who are unable to find employment because of the poor job market to fall deeper into debt which negatively impacts their credit score Another reason for the tuition increase is the reduction of state and federal appropriations to state colleges which then forces more of the financial burden onto the students State support for public colleges and universities has fallen by about 26 percent per full-time student since the early 1990s Luzer An interesting example I found was that for in first time in history American public universities took in more revenue from tuition than state funding in 2011 Public universities I found that to be astonishing because its showing just how much of the burden has been placed in students A theory that is somewhat controversial is the view of higher education is a bubble
