Gambling a past time in america that has become as much of a hobby as coin collecting Something that as a result more than 5 million Americans have become pathalogical gamblers half of which are young people ages 12-17 When you think of compulsive gambling you would tend to think it would be more of an adult problem but it isnt Due to technological advances this problem is becoming a traumatizing teen epidemic So today were going to hit this problem hard anaylize the problem as a whole getting to the root of the problem by discussing the causes and then well look at some ways we can solve and hopefully prevent this epidemic from growing Point 1 According to the Feb 28 2001 JAMA about 10-15 of yound people surveyed in the United States and Canada report having experienced one or more significant problems related to gambling and about 1-6 of those surveyed could possibly have satisfied the diagnostic criteria for pathological gambling To make it a little more clearer about 2 out of every three teenagers gamble and about 11 million US teens alone are compulsive gamblers Gambling is so tempting for teens The main reason teens get hooked on gambling is simply the lure of winning a large amount of money According to Jane HaubrichCasperson author of Coping with Teen Gambling teens believe that instant wealth would change their lives for the better help them acquire material things and in many cases even help their families purchase lifes basic necessities Teens get involved with gambling because its so widely available In 1999 there were only two states-Hawii and Utah- that did not have some type of legalized gambling such as
