Speech Personal Introduction May 24 2004 Hi Im Good morning everyone Professor and ladies and gentlemen of Speech 101 My name is Sejal Shah I am originally from the Mumbai which is a large and busy commercial and financial city in Indias Gujarat State I am twenty-two years of age I have been here in the United States for the last three years and I am enjoying the experience very much In the following brief remarks Id like to tell you a little bit about myself and about what it is like to leave ones native land and to make a new life in a new country far away from home What I will chiefly try to explain to you is how the challenges and opportunities of America appear to someone who examines them from the background of a different country and a different culture If you want to help me along a little bit you may try this little experiment Think of another country that you would really like to visit and just imagine that you are going to go to that country as a student for just one year Think about the challenges of language customs and the different educational system that you will find there This will help me a lot by putting you in the frame of mind to understand my story I have come to the United States with the aim of receiving an education in an educational system that is in many ways richer and more varied than the one I experienced at home I have a lively interest in accounting finance marketing and business management and to be very frank these subjects are much more accessible to many more people in the United States than in my native land Our Indian culture is a very old one and we have a great reverence for education This means that we study things of a classic
