Human behavior leads to traditions Traditional beliefs evolve into stereotypical thinking such as Male is placed above female thin above fat economically privileged above poor and so forth Come to probe the first part of the statement male is placed above female is this really a stereotype that originated from core human behaviors In the book Womens Voice the authors Susan Shaw and Janet Lee indicate that women are living under men due to different cultural tradition and expectations to become the submissive role player in a family or society I can relate Shaw and Lees point of view to myself because I see those traits do exist quite commonly in my own culture In todays society women should be treated equally as men To understand how the womens roles are played we must define what women are When I was young it seems much easier to define what a girlwoman is As long as I act cute and play with my dolls I can do the girls role perfectly However as I matured the role gets more complicated because I have learned more about my society and whats being accepted I also formed my own opinions of myself as in how I want to present myself to play a role that will be more advantageous to myself For instance this is the definition for a normal woman according to Susan Shaw and Janet Lee White middle-class heterosexual abled thin and a young adult Women not fitting these categories often tend to be considered different Something that used to be so simple in childhood seems to be very complex now Perhaps most people in the society lost their childhood innocence a long time ago and everything has to have clear definition to play its role When people have a different perspective to define the same object or term conflicts become inevitable in this case with men I believe this is also what the authors are
