The main point of this paper is to discuss the relationship between science and religion in todays society I will present the most commonly used birth control methods to compare them to the religious beliefs of the church All of the birth control methods will represent how scientific technological advances can be very contradicting to what the church believes The first part of the paper will discuss the various birth control methods that science has created for us The second part of the paper consists of the beliefs of the church and my thoughts about the contradiction between science and religion Birth Control is defined as any method of avoiding or postponing pregnancy I will discuss some of the most common birth control methods used today in our society The first method is called an Intrauterine device IUD An IUD is a small device made of plastic or metal that is inserted inside the uterus by a physician The way they work is by interfering with a fertilized eggs being implanted as is necessary for continued pregnancy They are not expensive and long lasting and require little attention to be effective against conception However an IUD can cause cramps bleeding infection and sterility and it is not recommended for every woman The next method which is many womens favorite and one of the most commonly used is the Pill The Pill is what many refer to as birth control pills The Pill was first used in the 1960s They are taken by the female and require a physicians prescription When used properly the Pill can be almost 100 percent effective The P ill interferes with the normal cycle of ovulation by creating a hormone imbalance that mimics pregnancy It is usually taken for three weeks of each month If a woman forgets to take one or more pills she increases the risk of pregnancy Other methods of birth control then must be used until the
