Despite the strides that gay people have made in order to achieve equal rights gays all over the world are often remain in alienated position in society Over the years the homosexual population has increased nationwide which leads to increase in homophobia in society Gay people in many states are still denied the right to marry They devour dissimilar treatment from society and forced to follow bias laws Andrew Sullivan argues through his article Why the M Word Matters to me that the homosexual people have lost their identity he attempts to convince the homophobic audiences for accepting the same sex marriage He states that the gay people experienced hatred and prejudice based on their sexual orientation Through his text Sullivan comprehensively convinces the homophobic audience to vote for the same sex marriage by expressing emotions with describing self-experience by presenting the laws favoritism towards heterosexual couples and showing that homosexual people have been categorized with criticism Sullivan attempts share his personal anecdotes to persuade the homophobic audience and request them to eliminate the stigmatism toward gay people He shares his emotions of anger and hope through his experiences as a gay person He says that When I looked toward the years ahead I couldnt see a future There was just a void Was I going to be alone my whole life Would I ever have a most important day in my life It seemed impossible a negation an undoing To be a full part of my family I had to somehow not be me So like many other gay teens I withdrew became neurotic depressed at times close to suicidal Sullivan 1Sullivan explains that the person who is homosexual experiences negligence throughout their lives which often leads to suicide He shares that being a gay in the society can harm self-confidence which may leads to anxious life style Sullivan method of writing his anecdote helps his readers connect with his experiences and
