All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights by Human Rights This quote tells us that everyone is the same and that everyone should have the same rights and freedoms If one was to examine this quote one would be able to infer that this quote does not apply to the way society as a whole treats or views mental illness People with mental disabilities should be allowedthe freedom tointeract insocietywith medical clearance rather than being locked up and not having the freedom Mental Illness is shown vividly in the story called The Yellow WallpaperThe Yellow Wallpaper written by Charlotte Gilman was a story about a lady that was suffering from postpartum depression after many years of pain and suffering In the story the lady is diagnosed with postpartum depression and also schizophrenia Her husbands decided that he didnt want to care for her and so he locked her in a room While she was locked up in the room she suffered from symptoms of schizophrenia and delusional disorder All of these symptoms that she had were issued as mental illnessesMental illness is a disorder characterized by disturbances in a persons thoughts emotions or behavior CCHR The term mental illness can refer to a wide variety of disorders ranging from those that cause mild distress to those that severely impair a persons ability to function The mental illnesses that were issued in the book were postpartum depression schizophrenia and delusional disorderThere are different types of depressions The one that the character in the story suffered from is Postpartum Depression Postpartum depression is severe depression after a women has given birth The depression can happen if the mother does not think she will be a good mother Feelings of anxiety irritation tearfulness and restlessness are considered postpartum depression Women who suffer from postpartum depression feel ashamed and embarrassed as if they have done something wrong and that why
