The rise of Christianity brought about a change of mentality and customs among the people and as a result it is said that it caused the fall of the Roman Empire later on Both historical events have a cause and effect relation to each other it is a long-term effect taking about 150 years for it to completely fall apart as this was when they last had an emperor The theory of the rise of Christianity being the cause for the fall of Rome goes back to one individual Constantine who indicates the start of Romes failure as its empire became divided due to the legalization of Christianity in the Roman world Lastly ignorance was another big flaw by the Roman government who failed to notice and act as their empire was falling apartTo start off Constantine is of much importance when relating these two topics since he is held responsible for the spread of Christianity across the Roman Empire Rome was divided in two the western and eastern part Constantine ruled the western side and was basically the one who legalized Christianity a religion that some would get persecuted for practicing He did this to get the Christians support for the wars going on at the time and granted many privileges to the church as a result Constantines decision was the starting point to the degradation of Rome as this was when Christianity started growing in size and in power making it harder for politicians to ignore them and having influential power An example of the series of events leading to the fall of Rome is The Edict of Milan which established that the Roman Empire would be neutral regarding religion ending government persecution especially towards Christianity This was the starting point to the growth of Christianitys power since they eventually considered it of higher power and importance than the Roman Gods ending the belief and official religion of Roman Gods among the Romans
