"This essay represents a good start, with an energetic, interesting approach to the topic on the prose level and a good set of interesting details. I have three suggestions to continue improving the project toward a polished final draft. The first is to take a look at organization. Right now, a lot of information is repeated across the paragraphs; why the paragraphs are in the current order and why some information is given in one paragraph and not the other is not clear. I suggest making sure each paragraph has a topic sentence and then examining each sentence within the paragraph: does it relate directly back to the topic sentence? This will help ensure all the relevant information is grouped with similar ideas. It can also address repetition by determining in which paragraph a certain idea or fact will work best. Second: as I said above, I found the voice to be engaging. However, there were a number of highly informal or casual phrases or word choices which did not seem appropriate to academic writing. I would encourage you to continue exploring how the verve and energy in your own voice can be balanced with the requirements of formal writing. Looking at word choice is one place to start. Third and lastly, as you review your arguments, make sure any broad or general claims are backed up by evidence and explanation, with citations that your reader can follow (make sure to cite summarized or paraphrased information, too). For example, a reader might need to be persuaded that rituals "have little positive effects" (can you cite a study or poll?)."
