Dusk had begun to fall on the gnarled grey oak trees creating newshadows and dark patches around Alana The moss dripped from the sicklydark trees like decayed flesh She moved faster ignoring the sharpbriars that scratched her skin and the damp leaves that grimed hershoes Every thing was quiet too quiet for Alanas liking Suddenly with arustle of leaves a small black bird sprung up from a branch andgracefully flew to a walnut tree using its beak to pry open a blackwalnut A bolt of raw adrenaline shot through Alanas veins and in aswift and silent movement she pulled a silver arrow from her quiver andattached it to her bow The sharp tip of the arrow glistened in thelast falling rays of sunshine as Alana slowly pulled the string of herbow back After a brief moment of waiting for the precise time she letgo of the arrow It soared above and missed the bird within incheshitting the branch of the oak tree instead Alarmed the bird whiskeddown from its perch and circled Alana from above As it circled Alanathought that something was different about the bird like it wasgetting bigger Suddenly the bird came into full view with its 8ftwingspan drawn Alana wasnt imagining it the bird was bigger Itswooped down to her level and advanced Alanas reflexes were too slowand as she threw her arm back to get an arrow the bird slashed herwrist making her fall to the ground Her body trembled as she fought the inhuman rage inside her Anotherscream cut the air as bright blue wings ripped out of her back shecould smell her raw flesh Her fingernails grew sharp grey talons whichclawed at the muddy ground a long swooping tail grew The Shift
