Any girls team in America knows what its like to be overlooked in the sports world Our volleyball team unlike almost any boys team in my school was one of the final four in the state this year Even though our team went that far and another volleyball team in my county got to the playoffs the football teams only won one game yet they still got just as much publicity as us The sports world definitely overlooks womens sports Even though womens sports have just begun to be televised there still isnt much of it on TV There are channels devoted solely to sports on which you might find two womens sports a day I looked through the sports channel listings in my Primestar program guide and there was one womans sports program listed between seven channels for one whole day The only way in which womens sports are not overlooked is through negativity Men can scratch themselves adjust themselves or be half-naked on TV and its okay But the smallest slip up from a woman causes a huge uproar in the media For example soccer player Brandi Chastain kicked the winning goal for the World Cup in soccer this year and afterwards she was so excited that she pulled off her shirt This caused a major stir in the media and public Chastain stated I felt very confident she was talking about the kick but of course everyone assumed she was talking about her body Saporito 60 In the summer Olympics when there are swimming competitions men can prance around in barely there Speedos when women wear the full one piece bathing suits When a guy pulls off his shirt because he just won a World Championship nothing will be said One reason womens sports have progressed this far is sex appeal Players of the World Soccer team posed nude or in swimsuits for magazines while Anna Kournikova a tennis player is
